My New Favorite

Okay, so I know this has been around for awhile now but I JUST downloaded it over the weekend and I can't stop making pictures!  Poladroid you are my new favorite!  You make everything special.  It's all so warm and soft and makes everything look pretty.

Headin' for the Hills Part II

via Identity Kitchen

We are off for a relaxing week in West Virginia.  It is my hope that it will be cooler there than here (did I just here 100 degrees forecast?!)  I've scheduled a blog post or two in the meantime.  We'll catch up when I get back!

A Place To Hang Your Hat

A few years ago I bought a pair of the cutest robe/towel/coat hooks in a little shop here in Richmond called Tinkers (I can't believe they don't have a website!).  Each had a mirror at the top with a bird silhouette just above the hook.  I didn't have a good place for them but I bought them anyway which I never do. I thought maybe the bathroom? maybe a gift?  They sat in a drawer for a long time.  Every once in a while I'd run across them and fall in love with them again still not knowing where they would eventually go.  Today though, they finally have a home!

They now have a spot right by the front door with our summer fedoras!  It's pretty and functional.  I have no idea what will happen in cold weather.  For now though, I love my little birds and my little hats.

I love that you can see the giant map from across the room reflected in the Husband's hook.

What's Your Style in One Picture Challenge

Ally at From The Right Bank has issued a great challenge to sum up your design style in one photo.  She has issued the challenge a few times before but this is the first time I get to give it a try.  Ack!  Only one photo!!

Kristen Panitch

Though it seems impossible to narrow it down to one picture, today I'm feeling like the above photo designed by California designer Kristen Panitch   says home to me.  It has an overall classic feeling with a muted palette that speaks to the way I like to live.   I love all the little details of this room: the layered natural grass and traditional rugs, the clean lines of the upholstery, the painted black french doors, the books and art.  I love everything.  My Sweet Husband is a musician by trade so there's always music and musical instruments around the house.  I love that there's a guitar in the shot just like my own living room.
Thanks Ally for letting me be a part of your challenge!!  So, does anyone else have a picture that represents their own style?  I'd love to see what inspires you too!

Revenge of the Trees - Part 2

So far, 2010 has not been a good year for trees and my family.  In March, a tree fell on my Sweet Husband's car as he was driving on the interstate!  Thankfully he walked away with just a few cuts and bruises.  The car did not survive.  On Saturday while a thunderstorm was brewing and wind was whirling, we heard a loud thump.  We wondered aloud what it might be but didn't investigate.  Later that evening the Husband stepped into the back yard and saw this:

Which turned out to be this:

Which broke off of this:

See that big patch of blue sky.  That's where the big limb used to live.  Remarkably there were only a few scuffs on the roof and the edge of the back gutter was bent a little.  Hopefully we can make it through the rest of the year without another attack!  Do you think they like compliments? Or take bribes?  Or like their trunks rubbed?

Rhino!

I have been oddly fascinated by this Rhino from Anthropologie's Savannah Story Bust collection since I first saw it in issue #4 of Lonny Magazine several weeks ago.  Then a few days ago I saw it's sister zebra on Totty's blog where she has just installed it in her new nursery.  I really should make the trek across town to see if it's something I really want.  As with all things, I have to think about it be fore purchasing (thanks again Mom!)    It could be an interesting conversation piece over the mantle...or it could look like a horribly misguided crafts project.  I can't decide yet.  Sweet Husband, do you have an opinion?

Rug Love

I'm in a mad search for a very inexpensive rug for a project I'm working on (a little boy's room, so cute!)  I've fallen in love with these ikea rugs but believe it or not they are still out of budget!  Sooo perfect though!

Ah, well.  On with the search!

Orange You Glad It's Thursday?

I'm thinking about the color orange today (and apparently feeling a little bit punny too!)  I thought I'd dive into the inspiration files to see what a little splash of orange can do.

Chair Love

I hope you all had a great Memorial Day weekend.  I know I did!  I need to confess that I have a bit of an addiction....a Chair Addiction!  (Well, that and sugar too, ugh.)  I currently have all the space that can handle chairs filled in my house as well as fostering a few out to loving homes (Thanks Mom!  Thanks Deirdre!)    But on my recent travels I came across this cute little one (ignore the clutter!  I was trying to be discreet with my picture taking in the consignment store!)

It has green leather and cute little rolled arms.  It's also less than $100!!  It is killing me that I had to leave it behind.  I hope it goes to a good family.
