A Little Something New

I've been completely distracted by spring and work and puppies and life lately.  I did buy that pillow that I saw while shopping for fabric a couple of weeks ago.  Every time I pass the leather (most comfortable!) chair where it lives, it makes me very happy.

While I Was Out

Last week while on a marathon shopping trip for a client I snapped a few pics of things that made me happy.  Now they can make you happy too.

Love these pillows! Spotted at the U-Fab here in Richmond, I think one of those Union Jacks might have to come home with me too.  

Also at the U-Fab, and making me me want to put tacks on something ASAP is the Pack-O-Tacs machine.

I want one of those machines!! And look at some of the lovely choices too.

Next up, a swatch of novelty fabric that caught my eye, not for my project but because it reminded me of my Sweet Husband.

It's Freddie Rocker by P Kaufmann.  But there was one guy in particular that stood out for me. Can you guess which one?

That's right, the Husband's doppelganger, the Bass playing Frog

And finally, while in Williams and Sherrill I saw this pair of green leather corner chairs. 

Loved the color and the tufting. Not sure they'd be the most comfortable to hang out in but (as my Sister says) sometimes you have to suffer for fashion.

Lastly, My sweet puppies have been making me very happy even if I didn't get the baby, Mabel out of the house in time this morning (sorry Husband!)

I have it bad for bowls

Okay, I've fallen off the blog wagon a bit (or more than a little bit!). Life has taken over a little but this is my attempt to get back to business!

So I have a problem with bowls...white ones specifically. I've (mostly) been able reign it in over the last few years because the Reslus Arms is short on space and the Husband always gives me the look when I bring new ones home. I've been very good until last week when I couldn't resist these porcelain lovelies from Target.

The Husband's criteria for bowls are that they be wide and not so deep.

Check! And though I don't think he loves the textured detail of the beading, it's what had me saying Hello.

It's surprising how some little thing like cereal bowls can make me so happy (eh, not really)

It's definitely making me happy today.

Deep in the Fabric Hoard

It was like being in an episode of Hoarders but with fabric!! 

My Mom has wanted to take me back into the Remnant Shop (in Galax, Virginia) for awhile now.  She kept saying "you won't believe the piles of fabric they have! You can't even get to 75% of it!"  Finally, during our Thanksgiving visit we were finally able to make it happen.  It didn't disappoint.

It was just like I remembered from my childhood except even more.  The little old man was still sitting in the same seat behind the counter.  The chatty wife was still grumbling and complaining around the stacks of fabric.  What I remember most about being in there as a little kid was that the owners HATED little kids.  My sister and I spent a fair amount of our childhood in fabric shops.  This was never one of our favorites.  But look at the possibilities now!

There was a bit of a path through the shop which made things still passable.  It was hard to see what was in the stacks beyond the first few layers though.

They also had a large collection of quilting/ cotton prints that were stacked everywhere too.

Though we didn't find fabric for Mom's new kitchen we did find some interesting stuff. If you are willing to dig there where some treasures to be found, and usually for a really great price too. I won't say that every bolt is a treasure but if you have patience I'm sure you can come out of there with something.

There was a crazy collection of pleather/vinyls.  Not usually my thing, but I have to say I really love this ostrich and crocodile patterns.  Wish I had something to cover.

 
They had a large selection of old school floral prints.  I also loved the green buffalo check and the navy polka-dot.  There was also a chicken toile that I forgot to photograph that was wonderful. Just imagine, Chicken Toile!

   
I also really loved this one.  It has a great graphic pattern and an beautiful woven texture.  I couldn't think of an immediate use so I left it all behind.  Now that I'm home though, the wheels are turning....

Friday Inspiration

Here's a few pretties from shopping with my iphone over the last few weeks.  First I spotted this bench for a client's bathroom in Homegoods

and this mirror to go over my mantle which I didn't buy (it was only $25) and now I'm kicking myself a little

Then I saw this Carlisle chair in Pottery Barn.  I'm thinking about the sofa version of this chair and I love the red pinstripe of this one.  It's super fresh, though I'm not sure I'm that fresh.

And finally I stopped in my friendly neighborhood Shades of Light with some clients.

 
There was lots of lovely things to catch your eye.  Besides lighting, this fun little chair grabbed my attention (when does a chair NOT grab my attention!) and I loved all the mirrored pieces surrounding it too. That Suzani  print in shades of blue is super-fantastic.

And I drooled a bit over all the lovely rugs on display.  Who doesn't love a good carpet!

This Week's Chair Love plus One

As I have stated may times before I have a chair problem.  I have now reached a point where I don't really have room for more but that doesn't stop me from looking.  Let's see what I found on Friday. (beware, iphone photos aren't the best)

I LOVE this little cane chair!!  In the photo even the upholstery is pretty fab, not so much in person.  I love those colors though so I would want to find something with a similar feel.  I so want to bring it home with me but I'm trying to be strong.  Though I could make a home for it in the new office....gah!  I need a chair intervention.  For this I may have to fall off the wagon.  What do you think?

Then I found this wing chair.

It's actually a pair!

These could really be made fabulous.  They are what happens if a wing chair and a bergere chair had babies. I could see the pair in this:

I also found this lovely chest with beautiful veneer work but in need of some love.  

It's not in the best shape by any means but it sure is pretty.  Makes me wish that our guest room was big enough for more than just a bed!  Something else for me to think about. 

What I Saw

Here are a few things that caught my eye this week while out shopping for clients.  First up is a lovely oval mirror that almost came home to live with me.

It was only $40 at Marshall's and it would have worked well over my current fireplace mantel.  Sadly, I wasn't in the mood to pull the trigger on this one.  I didn't feel that internal green light that says "YES, I must have this!"

I found this one at Pier 1.  It also makes me want to bring it home a little bit. 

It has such a great shape and has a really subtle gold tone on the edges that's really warm and lovely.  I still have high hopes for this one.

I also ran across my my favorite upholstered bed in Williams & Sherrill.  They have beautiful fabrics and home furnishings.  I always leave there feeling like I want, I want, I want!

I really do love this bed.  I want it for my guest room that is next on the docket for an update.  This, of course, is nowhere near making my budget for the room.  I keep thinking there has to be a way for me to recreate this with a little DIY magic.  I'm definitely going to keep thinking about it.

Needs To Go, Indeed

So I had a real design related post percolating in my brain for today, but while I was in Home Depot yesterday looking for shelf brackets (more about that soon, I hope!) I came across something else.

That's right, it's the 8'X10' Santa rug that you always wanted.  Take special note of the handmade sign.

Yes, I agree.  This needs to go.  As my friend Brad would say, "Now that's funny."  Happy Friday everyone. Have a great weekend!

Spring Is Here!!

Now that it is officially Spring and warm days are starting to appear again I am starting to thing about all things fresh, light and new.  First up is this top I picked up over the weekend. 

I love the navy and white a bit of the acid greenish yellow that this print has.  It makes me very happy to wear it too.  Now, I need a room that needs these colors too!

Here's a great room that already translates this look pretty well.

Animal Prints

I'm not talking about your typical leopard or zebra.  I kept running across really cute animal prints while shopping for fabric last week.  They don't work with any of the projects I'm working on right now but they are really fun.  It makes me wish I was working on a kids room right now. 

These dogs are so much fun and I love the bright colors too.  Hey Sister, this looks like something that you could use.  I found this one at Williams & Sherrill if you are local (Richmond) and want to see it in person.

I really liked these owls too - I may have been standing a little crooked but you get the idea.  The lighting was really bad so the colors seem a little cold and flat but it really is a fun print.  This one was spotted at U-Fab near Carytown.  (they also have a location in Charlottesville)

This Week's Chair Love

Since there is NO room for any new chairs at my house I thought I'd share the ones that catch my eye while I'm out and about.  I found this one at Homegoods last week while shopping for a client.  This traditional chair has a great pattern and and lovely shape too.  I love the curve in the back.  It's not quite a wing chair but close enough.

What I Saw

I was running through Homegoods on Friday looking for something for a client (that I didn't find) but several other things did catch my eye. Beware, these were taken with my ipod so they aren't the best photos you've ever seen.

First up, chairs!  No surprise here.  I love them so much that I can't bring any more home and some that I own have been farmed out to friends and loved ones.  This was a simple arm chair with a tufted back and a silvery gray linen covering.  It would great with either this:

 

or this one:

The chair also had a great table beside it.

Love the shape of the base.  There were several more chairs that caught my eye too. 

I love the shape of this slipper chair.  I even love the print though I know it's been around for awhile.  It would also look really nice with the table in the previous pic.

Then I came across this armless number in a great print.  The colors were really rich and popped in person.  But wait,

that same great print is available in an arm chair with these lovely turned legs.  This chair has quite a slope in it's back that would make it great for lounging (with an ottoman/pouf).  Everyone needs a place to put there feet up and relax, right?

I also passed by these on my way out the door.

Normally I am only a fan of plain white plates.  But I was struck by the delicate, handpainted look of these.  They are very sweet.  Even the bowls are sweet.  (did I mention that I also have a mad obsession for bowls?)

But the I was reminded of "Put A Bird On It" from Portlandia and I felt so ashamed.  They really are cute though...maybe just the bowls.
