I have it bad for bowls

Okay, I've fallen off the blog wagon a bit (or more than a little bit!). Life has taken over a little but this is my attempt to get back to business!

So I have a problem with bowls...white ones specifically. I've (mostly) been able reign it in over the last few years because the Reslus Arms is short on space and the Husband always gives me the look when I bring new ones home. I've been very good until last week when I couldn't resist these porcelain lovelies from Target.

The Husband's criteria for bowls are that they be wide and not so deep.

Check! And though I don't think he loves the textured detail of the beading, it's what had me saying Hello.

It's surprising how some little thing like cereal bowls can make me so happy (eh, not really)

It's definitely making me happy today.

In Progress: Another Kitchen

Thought I'd share another kitchen I've been working on.  It's not close to being finished but I thought you might enjoy a little peak at the work as it's being installed. I also think it's good to see the progress of something.  It takes time and effort.  It's more than just the pretty picture in the end.  I like to show the not always pretty work in-between too.

Here's the before.  The client wanted more light in her dark little kitchen.  She was looking for something clean and streamlined with a few industrial touches.

 Before:  sink wall

Before: ovens wall

Here's a little preview of what's to come in terms of materials and finishes.

And here's the progress that's been made so far.

 in progress: sink wall

The layout didn't change a lot but we did open up the sink wall with more windows for a lot more light - so much better!

in progress: oven walls

We also relocated the Refrigerator to this wall to allow for more counter and window space.  This is a much more functional arrangement than she had before.

Now I saved the best for last.  My very talented client found this amazing piece that she's going to use as her island/worktable in the center of the room.

I LOVE this I can't wait to see it all come together.

Happy Friday everyone!

Spring Is Here!!

Now that it is officially Spring and warm days are starting to appear again I am starting to thing about all things fresh, light and new.  First up is this top I picked up over the weekend.

I love the navy and white a bit of the acid greenish yellow that this print has.  It makes me very happy to wear it too.  Now, I need a room that needs these colors too!

Here's a great room that already translates this look pretty well.

What's your new favorite thing for spring?

Happy New Year!

Welcome to 2011 everyone!  I hope you all had a wonderful holiday and are refreshed and ready to jump back into it (whatever it is) now that we're in a new year.  I had a busy but fun few weeks with family, food, travel and some bad weather.  Now I'm ready to think about pretty things again.

I tend to think of things as colors (there is actually a technical term for this, it's called Synesthesia, thanks to Lauren at Pure Style Home that first put a definition to a way that I always saw the world!) It's not something that I find overwhelming or even obvious most of the time but every once in awhile I realize I'm thinking about something in a particular way.

As an example I see months and years in terms of color.  January feels white to me.  I really appreciate white spaces and actually had an apartment once that was full of shades of white with some dark wood pieces to add a bit of warmth (sorry, it was WAAAY before I ever even knew what a blog was and I have no pictures)

The room did have the feeling though of the above pic.  I had a great leather chair instead of those amazing ottomans though.  And I would have given anything for a fireplace!  Originally, I didn't have a grand plan for the place.  It was a rental and I was limited to what I could do with paint, etc.  It sort of evolved naturally into this quiet serene home all on it's own.  What a wonderful lesson for me to learn early in my design career about living with and working with a neutral palette.

So back to January and white!!  When all the Christmas decorations got backed away on New Years day I had a huge urge to pull out all my white pottery, candles and plates and fill the abandoned mantle with white.

It's a work in progress, and it is also gearing myself up to take on a fireplace renovation of come kind.  I'll save that conversation for another day.

So I have to ask, do you have Synesthesia?
